Swine Flu H1N1 Information
Big Brothers Big Sisters is preparing in the event of a large Swine Flu H1N1 flu season this year.
For Matches:
- When out on match outings, please make sure to cover your coughs with your elbow, and wash hands frequently
- If a Big or Little has had the flu, please do not attend activities together until that person is without a fever for 24 hours without the help of a fever reducer
- If a member of the household has the swine flu, please do not take out your Little until that family member is without a fever for 24 hours with the help of fever reducers
- If you need to cancel your outing and cannot reach the parent or Big, please call your Match Support Specialist/Program Manager on the cell number
- When you reach your Big or Little, make sure the parent or caregiver knows you are canceling because you have the swine flu, so that they can be prepared
- Maintain contact with your Big or Little via telephone to stay in touch! Let them know you are thinking of them.
- If you are at risk, please get both the regular flu and the H1N1 flu shot(s) when they arrive in October from your doctor. In order of priority of those at risk:
- Pregnant Women
- Children under 6 months of age and those that take care of them or are at home with them
- Health care workers and emergency workers
- All people 6 months through 24 years of age
- People 24-65 years who have health conditions such as asthma, chronic illness, or similar issues that put them more at risk
A list of match support specialists or Program Managers follows. Please be patient with us if we also have to cancel appointments at the last minute due to illness.
We have a policy, however, about how staff members can work from home via telephone and the internet as they recover, so we will still be available. Technology is our friend!
